Scot Heery, RT(R)(CT), was a Senior Imaging Technologist in the Department of Radiology at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC). He had worked in the department for over 30 years at the time of his passing last fall. Thanks to a very generous gift presented to the University of Iowa Center for Advancement in Scot’s name by an anonymous donor, three $5000 scholarship awards will be granted to senior Radiation Sciences Students each year.

A leader in his profession, Scot Heery added to the bank of knowledge in Radiologic Technology, Computed Tomography, and Radiation Sciences. His legacy will continue as students in the Radiation Sciences Programs at the University of Iowa are motivated to model his example of improving patients’ lives through better diagnosis and treatment.
The three 2020-21 applicants whose work ethic and daily commitment to quality patient care most closely aligned with the values and character that Scot Heery portrayed in his distinguished career and expected of Radiation Sciences students are (in alphabetical order):
- Madison Graeve – Radiologic Technology/ CT
- Miranda Olson – Radiologic Technology/CVI
- Conner Wharff – Radiologic Technology/ MRI
The Scholarship’s Selection Committee, comprised of 7 individuals who knew Scot well, received and reviewed applications from many extremely qualified and deserving students, making the selection process a difficult one.
