Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to The University of Iowa's Department of Radiology.

Our mission encompasses three core areas: first and foremost, to deliver exceptional clinical services to the community of Iowa, ensuring that patients receive the best care; second, to engage in cutting-edge research that pushes the boundaries of what is known in radiology and molecular imaging; and third, to educate and train the next generation of healthcare professionals. This includes providing comprehensive training for radiology residents, fellows, and technologists, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the complexities of modern healthcare.

Our department was founded in 1915 and has since established itself as a leader in the advancement of the radiology field. From the very beginning, we have made significant contributions to the field, including the publication in Iowa City of the first edition of the Radiology Journal at that time known as the Journal of Roentgenology, our profession's most prestigious and influential journal. This milestone not only marked the beginning of an essential resource for radiologists but also highlighted our department's commitment to advancing knowledge in the field.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, our department excels in both clinical practice and research endeavors. We utilize the latest imaging techniques and diagnostic equipment to provide high-quality care and services to patients. Our facilities are designed to support innovative research projects that address some of the most pressing challenges in radiology and the medical field.

We proudly foster a diverse array of research initiatives, with our faculty and students collaborating on impactful discoveries across multiple areas within radiology and molecular imaging. Through these efforts, we aim to contribute significantly to the evolution of medical imaging and improve patient outcomes on both a local and national scale.
